kk's favorite things: gift ideas for under $20

October 28, 2023

a round-up of our favorite things that we use all the time in our home! stocking stuffers, birthday gifts, Easter baskets - this list would be great for so many things and so many ages!

  • but first! see this blogpost for our favorite things over $50!

  • our favorite rainbow stacking/nesting bucket set

    • my go-to first birthday toy (“one is buckets of fun! happy birthday!”) because it’s such a great toy. for the beach, for the park, for the pool, for the bath, for cooking play, for building play, for imaginative play. the best.

  • our beloved rain shovel - the coolest tool for water, sand, dirt, everything. we bring it on every adventure, and it lives in our Pool/Adventure Bag because of its popularity.

  • four smaller plastic, durable vehicles - we have several sets we love this so much

    • I keep some in the car, in my diaper bag, and in our Pool/Adventure Bag. the saving grace for Fit4Mom classes, for cousin little league games, for family memorial services, for long car drives. my must-have toy for restaurants, special events, pool dates, little league games, and family gatherings - everything, basically.

    • same with the huge race car by the same company: in blue and pink

  • three plastic, durable construction vehicles

  • town vehicle set - yes, another car set. but KK loves the emergency vehicles, the trash truck, the mail truck, the school bus, and ice cream truck. any kid would be delighted, too. especially with this garage/car wash/gas station toy or this vehicle carrier.

  • truck scooper/digger - KK’s favorite for playing with rocks and pebbles

  • scoop set for sensory bins and bath play

  • condiment cups

    • don’t laugh, but this was KK’s favorite Christmas gift at 18 months, and continues to be one of her most-played with toys at three. for her play kitchen, for bath time, for sensory bins, for play dough - for all sorts of imaginative play. just yesterday she served me “a recipe of lemonade” in these condiment cups. grab a stack for the little in your life.

  • little nets

  • collapsible buckets - a pack of three, so perfect for keeping one in the Pool/Adventure Bag, one in the car, and one wherever we need it

  • glow-in-the-dark, water-friendly football

  • basic playground ball

  • binoculars

  • magnifying glass

  • this awesome magnifying glass contraption for looking at bugs and easily releasing them

  • measuring tape

  • the best toy wagon there is - my #1 toy pick if I were to choose

    • for hauling rocks, baby dolls, play food, cars, and everything in between

  • set of 12 dinosaurs

    • honestly one of KK’s favorite bath toys, but also regular toys

  • playing card holders

  • go fish with colors

  • spot it jr.

  • uno jr.

  • silicone suction cups for bath time + windows

  • brightly colored play dishes for the play kitchen, for bath time, for play dough

  • clay and dough tools

  • clay and dough patterned rolling pin set

  • blank postcards!!!

    • KK’s favorite stocking stuffer when she was two - and at 3.5 yo it’s still one of her favorite quiet activities. she loves decorating a postcard and “writing” a message to mail loved ones. a treasure of a gift!

  • smelly dual-sided markers

  • clickable markers

  • clickable gel pens

  • the best chalk

  • play scarves

  • butterfly wings

  • this beautiful, wonderful book about the United States of America

  • our favorite national parks book for kids

  • our favorite look and find books

    • we always keep a stack in the car.

  • doodle board

    • we keep one of these in the car, too. KK loves to doodle while we listen to an audiobook.

  • these Magnatile bases to build CARS!

okay, okay - not necessarily under $25, but we also love:

  • this massive tub of crayons

  • takealong stable with 8 horses - one of my favorite, favorite toys for all ages

  • this garage/car wash/gas station toy - 9/10 times if I set this gem out with these town vehicles or this emergency vehicle carrier after nap, it inspires lots of play in KK.

  • these wooden stacking/nesting boxes

    • an amazing building toy! we love these to make buildings, garages, obstacle courses, everything!

  • magazine subscriptions

    • we love magazines from Ranger Rick, Highlights, and Cricket - each company has several magazine options broken down by age!

  • memberships, tickets, and experiences

    • this blogpost always inspires me with 100+ ideas
