our grill and chill must-haves

June 13, 2023

every Sunday, we Grill and Chill.

(PS Here’s an olddd post on the six reasons we love a weekly Grill and Chill.)

Brett grills (or smokes!) something for dinner, and he also grills (or smokes!) some additional protein(s) for the week. This completely revolutionized our weeks. I menu plan based on whatever Brett’s grilling on Sundays - that amazing chicken he makes may get used for burrito bowls on Tuesday, those sausage links may be for sausage wraps on Monday. The best!

(PS Here’s this week’s menu plan.)

And every Father’s Day, we invest in a few great grilling/smoking tools and/or cooking toys for our Sunday ritual. And they get used all year long, year after year. The best investment, the most joyous gift!

(PS Here’s our three Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts and traditions!)

Here are some of our favorite Grill and Chill toys and tools!

  • Brett’s grill + accessories

  • Brett’s smoker

  • our grill prep table for our patio - the best gift ever!

  • indoor grill pan for when weather is bad

  • Brett’s favorite cookbook

  • anything and everything from Thermoworks. literally.

    • something from Thermoworks is our go-to Father’s Day gift - one year we invested in a whole set of their good silicone pieces, one year we invested in some thermometers for smoking meats, etc. Santa brought us one of their great big timers once. you can’t go wrong with anything from here.

  • grilling tool rest

  • skewers

  • basting pot and brush

  • basting bottle

  • chef’s squeeze bottle set

  • extra basting brush

  • turner + precision turner

  • a few sets of tongs

  • grill fork

  • grill cleaner

  • other grill cleaner

  • bbq gloves

  • grilling prep and serve trays

  • huge silicone bag for marinades

  • our favorite glass containers for storing food, especially grilled/smoked proteins

  • our favorite knives + magnetic knife strip

  • various cheaper cutting boards, but we love our investment one

  • meat tenderizer

  • rack to fit these half sheet pans for when brett salts meat

Sometimes we enjoy fun beverages for Grill and Chill. The past few years Santa brought us a few niiiiice things for beverages, and they’ve been beloved ever since.

  • shaker

  • cocktail strainer

  • fine mesh strainer

  • double jigger

  • angled measuring jigger

  • citrus juicer

  • muddler

  • our favorite koozies

And this is Grill and Chill - so we do something together on Sundays. Sundays are our day together - we unofficially block the day off and try to keep it free of commitments. So we may stay home and watch football, we may head to a state park, we may try a new-to-use playground, we may enjoy a morning at the pool. The point is we’re together.

  • here’s our favorite adventure gear

  • here’s our packed outdoor bag - aka the MVP of trips to the playground, park, etc.

  • here’s what we bring to the pool

  • here’s what’s in our s’mores kit

  • here’s what we keep on hand for the best popcorn

  • here’s our weekly summer schedule - this summer we Decided Once that Saturdays were for Family Adventures, and Sundays were for Trips to the Pool. it’s the best!

Happy Grill and Chill!
