kk's closet.png

a peek into kk's closet

August 30, 2021

if you’ve read my full list of things that help me feel my best, you know my clothes philosophy.

basically a few staples of clothing I love (in colors that look best) that all mix and match.

with a few fun accessories.

so it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that kk’s wardrobe follows a similar formula.

dresses

i only buy solid-colored dresses (for the most part) and I really only buy dresses that are blue or pink, although I also have a white dress and a gray dress - makes KK’s closet easier to mix and match. i mainly shop at Primary, Old Navy, and Target. lately we’re also reallyyyy into these solid colored tutu dresses from Carters.

and then we may have a few fun, patterned dresses from Goodwill or secondhand stores - but I still only buy pieces in blues/pinks/grays/whites.

We keep KK’s dresses, shirts, and jackets on these hangers.

shirts

i only buy solid-colored tops and I really only buy tops that are white, gray, pink, or blue - makes KK’s closet easier to mix and match. i mainly shop at Primary, Old Navy, and Target.

my go-to outfit combo for KK is a plain shirt, black leggings/shorts, and a fun hair clip, TBH.

We keep KK’s dresses, shirts, and jackets on these hangers.

shorts

two or three pairs of black bike shorts from Old Navy.

one pair of under-the-dress shorts from Primary in white.

leggings

three pairs of black leggings from Old Navy or Target.

jackets/cardigans/sweaters/outerwear

a gray zip-up hoodie from Target.

a big ol chunky gray cardigan from Old Navy.

a navy velour pullover from Old Navy.

a periwinkle tunic from Jcrew Kids.

a slate blue pullover from the boys’ section of Old Navy.

this pink rainjacket.

two or three fun fleece jackets and sweatshirts from Goodwill or secondhand stores, but I still stick to that white/gray/blue/pink color palette. (and i mainly buy in bigger sizes.)

for Christmas we asked my parents for some winter basics, like a pink puffer jacket from Target in three sizes too big.

We keep KK’s dresses, shirts, and jackets on these hangers.

shoes

this pair of water shoes in white

  • see our full list of summer (and pool!) essentials here.

these water-friendly shoes, in white

  • except I bought them secondhand for much cheaper on Poshmark

these white birkenstock-style sandals (we have these pink play sandals, too)

this pair of shoes in white for everyday wear

  • we like to get shoes in white to match everything…and to be handed down to future siblings/cousins. but if white isn’t preferable (or available), we try to get a solid color in pink or black, just because it matches the majority of her closet.

a pink pair of Totes rainboots from Target.

  • also grabbed the same rainboots in black for a very low price on Poshmark.

We have a dresser in our hallway - right where you enter the house from the garage - and there I keep her shoes and socks. So much easier for us.

swim + beach gear

kk's upf swimsuits

  • these suits are SO good. relatively pricey, but we get daily use out of these so it’s been so worth it.

kk's hat

  • it does not budge and it keeps her face so shielded. similar to her swimsuits, this thing is relatively pricey, but because we bought it in a color that matches her three swimsuits, she wears it almost every day and it has gotten serious mileage.

see our full list of summer (and pool!) essentials here.

we use our easter baskets as our annual tradition to get new swimsuits + fun summer stuff.

pajamas

Old Navy is my go-to. for Christmas we asked for a few of those darling pajama sets from Old Navy in a size or two too big, in the hopes that these pajamas last her for awhile. i think my mom bought us seven pajama sets and it has been so nice.

we also have two sleep bag/sacks from Kyte Baby: one she wears, and one we keep as a spare.

hair goodies

*since our clothes are so plain in pattern, I love gettingfunnnn (and sometimes seasonal) hair goodies - like glittery barrettes and pink velvet bows and candy corn shaped hair barrettes. and really, I only buy hair pieces in colors we wear - whites, pinks, blues, grays, and blacks - because, again, it makes it easier for everything to mix and match. see my clothes highlight on instagram for how I organize KK’s bows.

my dear friend Holly gifted us a bow subscription, and for that I’ll always be grateful. the best gift ever and the prettiest bow headbands! we recently converted them all to clips (using these clips) and now our bow collection is INCREDIBLE.)

we have these hair ties for kk’s hair.

and we have hair clips and hair bows in fun designs* from the following Etsy shops: Paisley Pockets, Daydreamer Designs by Alisa, Ava Bowtique, Diddlebugs and Me, Corrina 318, Headbands by Habegger, Blush Belle Co, J&G Accessories, Iris and Mae, Darling Daughters Shop, Pink Poppies Designs, Miss Bees Bows, and Lolibean.

and we have name/initial* hair clips from the following Etsy shops: May Crimson, Sunny Bird Boutique, The Darling Bow Co,

*since KK goes by her nickname, we don’t worry about putting her actual first name (that we never use) on a barrette.

We also keep spare clothes for KK in our evacuation bag.

And we have a spare outfit in my car. (Blogpost on my car coming soon!)

And that’s all. A wardrobe that all mixes and matches together…and that sparks joy.
