When I was pregnant with KK, I had the best time hitting up thrift stores and buying all the cute clothes. Her closet was packed.
And it didn’t take long for me to feel completely overwhelmed by it.
So I donated the majority of it, and changed to a very simple, easy baby wardrobe.
And I’m now reusing it with Joey. And it’s the best.
But also remember - we’re in Texas where our clothing needs are pretty minimal, especially now during the summer months. So for that reason especially, take everything with a grain of salt and do whatever works best for you.
Here’s our baby wardrobe!

A reminder that we only wear certain colors to keep things simple and to lessen my mental load.
With KK, we also invested in some fun bows. And a light pink onesie or two.
For Joey, we invested in an olive green bib. And some green/navy pajamas.
We have some gray, navy, and black baby pants, but I rarely use them. (Maybe I do when the baby crawls, but I can’t remember for the life of me.)
We have a few cold weather things, but hardly ever need them. My mom makes us baby blankets, and those are what we use the most.
KK didn’t walk until 15 months, and after that I invested in a white pair of these shoes (and have done so since). They have held up FANTASTICALLY and I can’t wait for Joey to use them when the time comes.
FAQ:
what about gifts? what about clothes that are outside “your colors”?
we really don’t buy clothes that are outside our colors. it makes shopping so much easier when we know only a certain set of colors are our options. but again - this method won’t work for everyone and that’s okay. this system just works really, really well for us.
and sometimes we receive clothes that aren’t our colors - like when KK received the most darling yellow, floral shirt as a gift. when this happens, I do one of three things:
add it to our evacuation bag - we keep three days’ worth of clothes per person in this bag
use it as a back-up outfit for blowouts in my bag
put it in my car - we keep a change of clothes for everyone in my car, either for messes or impromptu adventures. here’s a list of what I keep in my car!
or throw it in the donation bag, guilt-free. we only keep items in our home that we love or find useful. and if an item is neither of those things (like a yellow shirt), it’ll better serve someone else.
