my disclaimer is this: you do whatever works best for you.
but as KK’s hair got longer and longer, I kept putting off her first haircut.
and I finally pinpointed why: I didn’t want to have to add “scheduling haircuts” and “going to the haircut place as a Morning Outing” and “wrangling two kids in said haircut place” and “paying for a toddler trim” and and and…to my plate.
so I decided to order some haircut supplies, watch some Youtube videos, and do it myself.
and I was basically too scared to do it…until my good friend Hayley told me she cuts her daughter’s hair, and I always think her daughter is adorable. Hayley had such a positive, laid back, “it’s NBD if mistakes happen - her hair is a mess all the time anyway” approach, which gave me just the boost of confidence I needed. I went home and gave KK her first haircut immediately after that.
storage
I keep all my haircutting supplies in this tub. our hallway closet has a shelf of six of these tubs, so when it’s time to cut KK’s hair, I just grab the tub of haircutting supplies. see my “hallway closet” highlight for the hardest working (and arguably most organized) closet in our home.

my method
I don’t have one. Truly. I watched some Youtube Videos, and that’s about it - I definitely don’t feel like I know what I’m doing yet and that’s okay. KK’s hair isn’t perfect, but I love being able to give her a quick trim while she’s watching If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. And I love that I can do it on my own time, whenever I want, in my own home. (Luckily she has very, very forgiving hair.)
Whatever works best for you is amazing.
